DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and provided an update on various County projects.  

 

Laura provided the following department updates:

            Child Support Enforcement Agency:  Sandy Schappert reported that the Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency office now has a new public email address: defcsea@odjfs.state.oh.us.  The public can use this email address to communicate with the Defiance County office.

            Maintenance:  Ron Cereghin reported that maintenance sprayed the Defiance County East trail for weeds, repaired the self propelled mowers, and repaired the gable on the potato barn at Evergreen Lane Office Complex.

            Wastewater Operations:  Greg Reinhart reported that the department jetted the return sludge line at Evansport.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss various pending legal matters.

 

Tim Houck, Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners to discuss contracts.

 

Toby Hood, Schooley Caldwell, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Historic Jail Project. 

 

The Commissioners recently received the monthly activity report from the Clerk of Courts Office.  Amy Galbraith reported that during the month of April 2010 the office collected $8,717.06 in legal and $19,342.32 in title; they deposited $115,831.95 in legal and $281,719.75 in title.  They also collected $263.008.91 in sales or use and dealer’s tax and $3,302.44 in watercraft tax.  Amy also reported issuing 1,899 titles, 3,656 liens, and 3,722 inspections.
