NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, May 22, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas L. Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Administrator and Alison Grimes, Clerk.   

 

7:30 a.m.        The Commissioners, Becky and Alison attended a Drug-Free Workplace training seminar at the Public Safety Services facility until 11:30 a.m.  The training is required for all county employees, not only for their safety and well-being, but, by attending the training, the County’s Workers’ Comp premium is reduced.  Training sessions are scheduled for May 22 and 27 for elected officials and supervisors and May 28, 29 and 30 for employees. 

 

1:30 p.m.        General Session

 

Diane Mayer, Senior Services Center Director, met with the Board in EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding the Hiring of Personnel (ORC 121.22 (G) (1) ).  EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 2:00 p.m.

 

After review, a candidate was selected and will be offered the position of Business Manager at the Senior Services Center.   Joe Coressel, the previous Business Manager, passed away last month.

 

After EXECUTIVE SESSION, Commissioners met briefly to approve and sign various resolutions and documents, approve several travel requests, review the agenda items and the calendar of events, discuss upcoming meetings and update information for the calendar of events.   

 

The Humane Shelter submitted their April report.  A total of 194 animals were taken in at the Shelter while only 91 were either claimed or adopted (51 adoptions, 40 claimed).  A total of 95 animals were euthanized (47 dogs, 5 puppies, 38 cats, 5 kittens).
