OPENING:    

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2002, in the Commissioner’s Conference Room, 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio  43512 by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

8:30 a.m.        General Session

 

9:00 a.m.        Otto Gerdeman, Poggemeyer Design Group, met with the Commissioners with a brief projects update.  Residents must be connected to the Brunersburg system by June 15.  The loan pre-closing meeting for this project is scheduled for Monday, June 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Commissioners.  

 

9:30 a.m.        The Agenda was reviewed at this time and Commissioners reviewed various issues.  Becky Wagner, Administrator, present a portion of her update; the remainder will be given at a later time.  Applications for the position of Business manager at the Defiance County Senior Services Center have been reviewed and interviews are being scheduled for early next week. 

 

A Sexual Harassment training has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 24 for all Elected Officials, Department Heads and Supervisors.  Either Beth Miller, from CORSA, or a representative from Downes and Hurst, will present the training. 

 

10:30 a.m.      Russ Herman, Defiance County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to review information concerning the new annexation laws (Senate Bill 5).  Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, also attended the informational meeting.  Generally considered to be effective as of March 27, 2002, there are now five different types of annexation options and different procedures must be followed for each one.  The group reviewed the different types of annexations and Russ answered various questions concerning the different types.    An annexation public hearing, under the new rules, is scheduled for Monday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. 

 

1:00 p.m.        Commissioners attended a Planning Commission meeting at Maumee Valley Planning.  A variance requested by Delbert and Jeannine Diemer, dividing a parcel into four parcels along with easements for ingress and egress, was approved.

 

2:30 p.m.        The meeting scheduled for this time – an informational session with various support agencies: Job and Family Services (Deb Bresnan), Family and Children First Council (Sandy Herman), Women and Family Services (Jeff Mayer), Women, Infants and Children (Kim Moss), Hicksville Community Service Center (Barb Donley) and United Way (Marilyn Williams), was cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
