The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L.
Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk,
and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and
provided an update on various County projects.
Tim Houck,
Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tim reported that 2010 Operating Revenue
through April is $741,171.77 and the Operating Expense through April is $614,336.86. This compares to $734,280.67 in Operating
Revenue and $684,237.39 in Operating Expenses for the same time period of
2009. The total sales
for April was $218,868.25; compared to $209,542.14 for 2009. There were 7,174.14 cubic tons and 22,517
cubic yards collected during April. 413
miles of roadway have had the litter collected in 2010.
Deb Mosier,
Defiance County Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners for the Krause
Ditch #04-02 Bid Opening. The pre-bid
estimate was $49,825.00. The following
bids were received: Sines Excavating:
$46,639.50; Meck-Donald’s Contracting: $40,404.50; Poling Excavating:
$48,279.00; Matt Crum Excavating: $38,690.00; Birchwood Construction:
$51,544.00; Zenz Farms, Inc.: $39,536.40.
The Board took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.
Toby Hood,
Schooley Caldwell, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Historic Jail
Project. Toby informed the Commissioners
that a change order will be coming due to the waterline on Wayne Street not
being in the location originally provided.
The Commissioners
attended the Defiance County Planning Commission meeting at Defiance
County East.
Wes Farhbach,
Senator Voinovich’s staff member, and Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic
Development, met with the Commissioners to discuss concerns for Defiance County
including a Tiger 2 grant application and a grant application to help flooding
at Community Memorial Hospital.
There will be no
session on Monday, May 31, 2010; the Commissioners’ Office is closed due to Memorial
Day.
