NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, May 29, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas L. Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Administrator and Alison Grimes, Clerk.   

 

8:30 a.m.        Jeff Strausbaugh, County Prosecuting Attorney and Russ Herman, Chief Assistant County  Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Board in EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding the Purchase or Sale of Property (ORC 121.22 (G) (2)).  

Motion – Rich            Second – Otto           All eligible voted aye.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 8:55 a.m.  The Prosecutor was requested to set up a meeting with City officials to present the information reviewed at this meeting. 

 

9:00 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.   The Board also approved and signed the voucher report for May 30 as there will be no Board meeting next Monday.  

 

9:33 a.m.        Dave Branson, Defiance Township Zoning Inspector, stopped in and sat through a portion of the Board meeting. 

 

9:37 a.m.        Karen Seigman and Kelly Worline, Tourism Bureau, met briefly with the Board for an update on Bicentennial activities.  Representative Jim Hoops will be performing the mold cracking at the casting ceremony.  Hank Arps, the County’s most decorated and most senior veteran, will be the first to ring the bell.  Karen and Kelly reviewed the various events and time schedules for the activities slated for the weekend of June 14 and 15 and gave draft copies of the program for the Board to review.  

 

10:08 a.m.      Amy Murphy, Family and Children First Council Director, stopped in to obtain the Commissioner’s signatures on paperwork for an administrative grant for that facility.  The $20,000 grant will be used to assist in development and implementation of programs, training and travel expenses and administrative salary. 

 

10:21 a.m.      The Board entered EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding the Hiring of Personnel (ORC 121.22(G) (1). 

Motion – Otto Second – Rich           All eligible voted aye.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 10:32 a.m.  A prospective candidate will be contacted and offered the position of Job and Family Services Director.

 

10:40 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly update at this time.  She reviewed an electrical problem at the Breckler Road Pump Station Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Operations Director, had over the weekend. 

 

Becky also noted that the Family and Children First Council audit went very well – there were only two minor issues and both have already been resolved. 

 

10:46 a.m.      The Board entered EXECUTIVE SESSION to discuss Hiring of Personnel (ORC 121.22 (G) (1)).

Motion – Otto Second – Rich           All eligible voted aye.

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 10:51 a.m.  Informational only - no decisions were made.

 

11:00 a.m.      Lisa Karcher, Maumee Valley Planning, met with the Board to review the FY03 Formula programs.  The following project requests were made:

Total CDBG funding is $96,000; less housing and administrative fees, $79,000 will be available for the projects.

 

A second public hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m.
