COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz,
Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners approved a 5 year
forgivable grant in the amount of $10,000.00 from the Defiance County
Infrastructure Revolving Loan Fund for A&P Tool,
Inc., Hicksville, Ohio to finance project costs related to the acquisition and
relocation of the business operations of A&P
Tool, Inc. to 801 Meuse Argonne, Hicksville, Ohio and the relocation of the
business operations of Arc Solutions to the facility which A&P
Tool, Inc., is vacating located at 605 Industrial Drive, Hicksville, Ohio. The
total investment shall include the acquisition of a Horizontal Machining
Center, and associated rigging, foundations, setup, cleaning, plumbing, fire
suppression repairs and power distribution estimated to be in excess of
$310,000.00. The project will result in A&P Tool, Inc., retaining its current level employees
as of May 31, 2012 and the addition of ten (10) employees during the term of
this Note. In addition, Arc Solutions which is relocating its operations to the
facility which A&P Tool, Inc. is vacating shall
retain at least five (5) employees during the term of this note.
The Commissioners’
Office received a Petition for Annexation from Marc F. Warncke, agent for the
petitioners, for 1.665 acres of land in Section 30 of Richland Township into
the City of Defiance.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update. Laura
informed the Commissioners that 16 residents still need to hook up to the
Auglaize River Sewer. There is a
deadline of June 30, 2012 to hook up.
The Commissioners
met with Johns Manville representatives regarding the landfill contract.
Tim Houck,
Defiance County Environmental Services/Landfill Director, met with the
Commissioners for an update. Tim informed the Commissioners that the
Environmental Program received a 2012 Community Development Grant in the amount
of $10,000.00 for a replacement truck for the recycling program. Tim provided
the monthly financials for April, 2012. There was $270,707.10 in sales from
30,660 cubic yards and 9,078.89 tons compared to $267,183.17 in sales from
28,994 cubic yards and 9,020.37 tons in April, 2011.
