DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, June 1, 2006.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Thomas L. Kime.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard Cromwell, Otto L. Nicely; Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Lyla Gurwell, Clerk. Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk, was in attendance at the Defiance location.

 

 

General Session – General Session - The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Jane Tadsen submitted her report for the month of May.  Jane recorded 199 Deeds, 338 Mortgages, 250 Releases, and (1) one Power of Attorney.  Total collected for May was $20,347.50 for the Housing Trust and $20,991.25 for the General Fund.

 

Becky Wagner submitted her report to the Board of Commissioners.

 

Becky advised the repairs to the handicap ramp at the courthouse are almost done.  The Defiance County Maintenance Department will be painting the railing and adding a surface coat over the concrete.

 

Becky invited Jerry Overmier from Beilharz to come in to present the Power Point Presentation he is assisting with. 

 

The Commissioners have looked at six different options.  Based on the price of each option and the future needs and opportunity for growth of the County, the Commissioners have narrowed the options down to three.  The Commissioners have asked Jerry to show the total square footage and summary of costs for each option. 

 

Jerry will work with Becky to fine tune each option.  The Commissioners will then hold several public meetings throughout the County beginning in July of this year to introduce the plans and renderings of each alternative.  Jerry also presented a summary of costs involved in each option

 

Kevin Hancock from Soil & Water came in to open bids for the Highland Ditch project.   The bids were received from Poling Excavating & Waterways (Convoy, OH) - $77,117.00, Rosengarten Construction Company (Ottawa, OH) - $76,206.92, Meck –Donald’s Contracting (Archbold, OH) - $77,697.50, Zenz Farms (Delta, OH) - $77,450.00, Sand Ridge Excavating (Cloverdale, OH) - $80,774.16, Dennis Panning Excavating (Deshler, OH) - $77,392.65, S. A. Sidle (Holgate, OH) $69,710.50.  The Commissioners will take the bids under advisement and award the bid next week.

 

Tina Hiler, Director of Defiance County Senior Center came in to discuss the Passport Program.  The Commissioners signed the Passport provider worksheet which is a Therapeutic/ Dietary Meal program of home delivered meals for seniors.

 

 

 

 

Tina also discussed a brochure she and her staff have been working on for new Senior Center.  The brochure discusses the need to raise more than $2 million to complete the building project.  The brochure lists several donation plans for donors to consider.  The brochure will be professionally printed and distributed to businesses and citizens in and around Defiance County.
