DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 5, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on          Monday, June 5, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Board acknowledged receipt of the retirement of Dr. Preston as Defiance County Coroner effective on June 7, 2006.  Dr. Paul Brose, is currently serving as Deputy Coroner.

 

The Board authorized award of the Highland Ditch project to S. A. Sidle from Holgate, OH who submitted a bid of $69,710.50.

 

Warren Schlatter came in for his weekly update with the Board of Commissioners.

 

Warren briefly discussed the Elliott Road Project.  Warren indicated the contractor is on schedule for the September 15 completion date and is to the point where the job is less weather dependent.

 

Warren discussed several other projects such as Jericho Road – the Highway crew is working on roadside grading.

 

Warren also discussed the Glenburg Road Bridge project.  Warren mentioned the beams were set and the bridge could be paved next week.  Before the bridge can reopen, the guardrail will need to be installed.

 

Jim Harris, Ditch Maintenance Administrator for Defiance Soil & Water Conservation district came in for the Jackson Ditch Hearing.  Jim submitted a watershed map and a schedule of the landowners with the construction base for maintenance assessments and asked that the ditch be placed on the ditch maintenance program.  Jim did not receive any objections from the landowners prior to the meeting and those present during the hearing agreed to place the ditch under the maintenance program.
