The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512
on Monday, June 9, 2003. The meeting was called to order by Thomas
Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L.
Cromwell. Also present was Becky
Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown,
Deputy Clerk.
8:30 a.m. Russ Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting
Attorney, met with the Board to review various documents pending his review
and/or approval.
9:00 a.m. General
Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved
several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events,
discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.
Deb Bloomfield, liaison
between the County and the Tourism Bureau regarding the upcoming Bicentennial,
reminded the Commissioners of various activities scheduled for next
weekend.

Other activities being held include the GM Powertrain
foundry simulations and displays, the Defiance County Commissioners’ videos on
local government, YMCA children’s activities, Bicentennial merchandise sales,
bell auction and raffle and food vendors.

Dennis McKay and Susan Jackson, Defiance County Job and
Family Services, along with staff from the State of Ohio,
have established a rapid response team to assist the employees of the
Johns-Manville plant that burned several weeks ago. Manville employees have been notified of six
informational sessions that will be held Thursday, June 12 and Friday, June
13. Employees will be informed how to
access various available services in the County and how to apply for
unemployment. An employee needs survey
will also be conducted.
9:30 a.m. Jerry Hayes, Economic Development
Director, met with the Board to present five Enterprise Zone Agreement Amendments.
- Alfe
Heat Treatment – extension of project completion date from December 2002
to December 31, 2004.
- CBS
Boring and Machine Company – extension of project completion date from
December 2002 to December 31,
2004.
- Defiance
Woodworking Machinery – name changed from Defiance Woodworking Machinery to Defiance Machinery Company.
- Parker
Hannifin – decreases the job creation commitment from 61 full-time to 25
full-time permanent jobs.
- Trident
Corporation – name changed from Trident
Corporation, Division of Shane Group to Trident Manufacturing, Division of Anderson Cooper and Brass
At approximately 10:15
a.m., the Commissioners, Becky Wagner,
Sherry Carnahan and Joan Brown left to attend
the Northwest District County Commissioners and Engineers Quarterly
meeting. Upper Sandusky
hosted tours of various county industries and activities and the tours were
followed by a meeting and dinner.
