The Board of Defiance County
Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board
of Defiance County Commissioners,
500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512 on Thursday, June 9, 2005. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto
L. Nicely. Also present were Commissioner
Thomas L. Kime; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Alison Grimes, Clerk and
Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. Commissioner Richard L. Cromwell is on
vacation.
8:30 a.m. General
Session Commissioners approved and
signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel
requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed
upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.
They reviewed the Clerk of Courts May activity report which
noted that 2,482 titles were issued – 147 new cars, 1,430 used cars, 66 new
trucks, 495 used trucks, 34 vans, 89 motorcycles, 42 manufactured homes, 9 trailers,
39 travel trailers, 8 motor homes, 40 off-road vehicles and 83 watercraft. Total collected and deposited to the General
Fund was $60,973.97.
9:30 a.m. Becky Wagner,
County Administrator, noted the following for
the Board’s review:
ü
Confined space training was held this past
Tuesday by Ohio State University. A group of 22 county employees were trained
at various locations – the landfill, the county highway garage and the DARA
site at Evergreen Lane. The Senior Services
Center graciously offered
one of their busses to use to transport the group from location to location.

Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, informed
Becky that the dishwasher at the Senior
Services Center
has been installed.

The Help Me Grow Collaborative meeting was held
Tuesday and minutes were given to the Board for their review. The Family Fun Day for Help Me Grow families
is scheduled for Sunday June 26th from Noon to 3:00 p.m. For further information, please call Stacie
at the help Me Grow office.

The Indian
Bridge Lane pump station is scheduled to start up
at 10:30 a.m. on June 13
and the City has been informed of this.
10:30 a.m. A Landfill update, scheduled by Tim Houck for this time, was cancelled and will be
rescheduled.
11:30 a.m. Greg Koerber, Defiance resident, met briefly with the
Commissioners with concerns about the Dowe Ditch project. Jeff Ankney, Soil and Water Conservation
District Administrator, also attended.
Mr. Koerber had concerns about drainage direction and age of the soil
information that were addressed by Soil and Water. He was requested to contact his Township
Trustees (Noble) about two other issues he had.
