NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, June 12, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.     

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.   

 

Randy Vogel, County Humane Agent, submitted his May report.  His office responded to 152 complaints, issued 25 warnings and 11 citations, took 33 dogs to the Animal Shelter, logged 1,945 miles on the county vehicle and took 2,100 pounds of euthanized animals to the Landfill.

 

Jean Ziegler, County Clerk of Courts, submitted her May report.  Her department issued titles for the following:

            Watercraft:       52                  Vans:                               39               Motorcycles:  59

A total of $14,071.42 in title fees was collected.

 

9:30 a.m.        Becky Wagner, County Administrator, met with the Board to present her weekly update.  She informed the Commissioners that the County will be receiving a Workers’ comp refund of $23,056.16. 

 

An Elected Officials luncheon/meeting will be scheduled for Thursday, August 7 at 11:30 a.m.  Representatives from BWC will give a presentation to those in attendance regarding claims. 

 

The Senior Services Center will be advertising for a substitute cook to be available as a back-up during vacations, sick time, etc. 

 

The County’s back-up software on both the server and the web server is scheduled for an update.  Bob Arend, County Computer Consultant, had previously budgeted the amount of $395.00 per computer for this project.  

 

Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, completed an inspection of the replacement windows in the Courthouse.  Rubber molding in a few of the windows was loose and was repaired.  Ron will continue to monitor them for future problems for warranty purposes.

 

Deb Bloomfield, Deputy Clerk and liaison between the County and the Bicentennial Committee, gave a last-minute update regarding the weekend’s activities.

10:30 a.m.      Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, met with the Board to open bids for the Evansport Wastewater Treatment Plant project (blower and sump replacement).  Also attending the bid opening was: Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Operations Director and William Crider, Helm and Associates.  The lone bid was received from the following:

Engineer’s estimate for the project is $28,000.00.

 

The Commissioners accepted the bid as presented for further review and recommendation from Poggemeyer.

 

11:30 a.m.      Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Board to open bids for the Fairgrounds Beef Barn project.  Also attending the bid opening was: Glenn Vance, Larry Mick, Andy Mack, Dan Siebenaler, Pat Slattery and Francis Schindler.      Bids were received from the following:
