The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2010 in the Hicksville Village Council Room,
Hicksville, Ohio. Vice-Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioner Otto L. Nicely,
Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy
Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners approved contracts with Downes, Fishel, Hass and Kim
for 2010 for legal services, and with Ohio Teaching Family Association and
Starr Commonwealth for Child Placement and Related Services.
The Joint Board of Defiance County, Ohio and DeKalb County, Indiana met
to review and approve 2011 joint ditch assessments for both Counties. Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Soil & Water,
reviewed the 2011 Joint ditch inspection assessment list for Defiance County.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board. Laura provided the following department
updates:
Child Support Enforcement Agency: Sandy Schappert provided her status report for May, 2010: approximate caseload 2,836, 2010 Collections
as of May 31st $2,949,778, 2010 Expenditures as of May 31st
$286,626, Actual collections for the Month of May $565,387, and Average
collection per case in May $200.
Maintenance:
Ron Cereghin reported that maintenance continues to install filters on HVAC
units.
Public
Safety: Julie Rittenhouse reported that she sent Paula to Fulton County
last Thursday to work with Lynn Gaylord in the Volunteer Reception Center. Julie Rittenhouse also spent 3 days in Fulton
County helping with the disaster.
The Joint Board of Defiance and Henry Counties met to review and
approve 2011 joint ditch assessments for both Counties. Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Soil &
Water, reviewed the 2011 Joint ditch inspection assessment list for Defiance
County.
The Commissioners met with the Fairboard Executive Committee to discuss
a lease agreement.
The Commissioners recently received the monthly report from Amy
Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts.
Amy reported collections of $9,077.87 for legal and $19,398.26 in title
and deposits of $85,689.72 in legal, $293,850.00 in title, $262,773.93 in sales
or use and dealers’ tax, and $10,274.06 in watercraft tax. Amy also reported issuing 1,751 titles, 299
notation of liens and 389 inspections.
