DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Steve Sondergaard, Law Library Resources Board, met with the Commissioners to provide an update at to discuss afterhours access to the Law Library computer for lawyers.  After discussion, the Law Library Resources Board will continue to research remote access availability through a password system for Westlaw.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Commissioners that weather permitting, the highway crews and the contractor will be working this week on roadside grading on Watson Road east of SR 15 and on Banner School Road between Domersville Road and Adams Ridge Road.  Warren also reviewed the Fairgrounds drainage.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Randy informed the Board that during the month of May, the department handled 122 complaints, made 288 personal contacts and issued 29 warnings and 20 citations.   There were 26 dogs taken to the shelter and 2.375 miles driven.  There has been $78,008.00 collected in for dog tags and kennel licenses compared to $71,108.00 for 2009.  To date, there has been 7,604 tags sold; during all of 2009, there was 7,502 tags sold.

 

Jeff Ankney, Defiance County Soil and Water, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Jeff informed the Commissioners that Krause Ditch Reconstruction should be beginning in the next two weeks; Stover Ditch Reconstruction will be going out for bids in the next two weeks.  There will be an information/public hearing for Willitzer Ditch in July.  Hoschak Tile Extension has been surveyed and they are working on the design.  Rosedale Road Ditch has been surveyed; and Mark Center Ditch survey has started.  The Bee Tree Run Stream Restoration Project is underway.  Defiance County received the Lake Erie CREP award for first District to 4,000 acres in the Lake Erie CREP Program. 

 

 

The Soil and Water Conservation District is selling rail barrels ($65.00 for 50 Gallon Brown Barrels and $70.00 for 60 Gallon Gray Barrels).  Rain barrels are an easy and inexpensive way to catch and reuse the water that runs off of your roof during a storm event.  Normally when it rains, water runs off your roof into your gutters and eventually into the storm drain system.  Once it stops raining, the water is no longer available.  Rain barrels are designed to be convenient ways of storing rainwater so that it can be used later to water your plants or lawn.  For more information contact the Soil & Water Office 419-782-8751.

 

The Joint Board of Commissioners of Defiance and Williams Counties met to review and approve the 2011 Joint Ditch Maintenance Assessments for the joint ditches maintained by both Counties.  Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Soil & Water, reviewed the 2011 Joint ditch inspection assessment list for Defiance County.  Dennis Bell, Williams County Engineer, reviewed the 2011 Joint ditch inspection assessment report for Williams County.
