DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JUNE 23, 2005

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, June 23, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. 

 

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

Also during General Session Commissioners signed:

 

ü     Contract documents for the Jewell Community Center Roof Replacement Project (through Maumee Valley Planning).

 

ü     On behalf of the Board, Commissioner Nicely signed the environmental review documents for the Hicksville Senior Center Parking Lot project (through Maumee Valley Planning).

 

 

9:30 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented the following information for the Board’s review:

 

ü     The Volunteer Connection, the Chamber of Commerce and the Cancer Society will be holding a barbecue in the McDonald’s Design and Build parking lot on July 1st.

 

ü     The Island Park Avenue buildings have been surveyed and the information will be sent to the Board when completed.

 

ü     Tentative members of the newly-created Sewage Operation and Maintenance Committee have been contacted by Kim Moss, General Health District Commissioner.  The Board, in cooperation with Ms. Moss, will set a date for their first meeting.

 

ü     Family and Children First Council’s audit was recently completed and went very well.  State Auditor’s requested Family and Children First set up an audit committee for next year’s audit.

 

ü     125 people have signed up for Sunday’s Help Me Grow “Fun Day” at Riverside Park.  It is scheduled from Noon to 3:00 p.m.  The Commissioners were also invited to attend.  

 

 

10:30 a.m.    Karen Tubbs, Treasurer; Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts; and Tim Houck, Landfill Manager, met with the Board for the second quarter, 2005, Investment Advisory meeting.  After review, the Board found that all county assets are in order. 

 

 

 

 

 

11:00 p.m.    John Horns, Defiance Regional Medical Center, met with the Board regarding utilizing the county airport.  DRMC would like to move the helicopter to the county airport.  Mr. Horns had concerns regarding the Airport Authority contract; one of which is that the contract currently stipulates “fixed-wing” aircraft - which does not include a helicopter.  The Board will request these issues be addressed by the Airport Authority.  A hangar and crew quarters will also be built; Mr. Horns will call the Board with the number of employees that will be manning the hangar/crew quarters through each of three shifts.         

 

 

The 1:00 p.m. Planning Commission meeting scheduled for this afternoon was cancelled.
