DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 25, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, June 25, 2007 at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator and Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk.   

 

The Commissioners attended the Annual Defiance County Farm Bureau Policy Development Breakfast.  Farm Bureau members and public officials exchanged ideas and plans that will affect the future of Defiance County and Ohio.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren reviewed the Farmer-Mark Tile Project with the Commissioners.  A Petition for Construction of Ditch Improvement has been filed on March 14, 2007 with the Board of Defiance County Commissioners to alleviate flooding of property and roadways within the watershed in the vicinity of Farmer-Mark Road south of SR 249 in Farmer Township. 

 

Warren reported that Huber Road between Cicero Road and Lake Road will be closed for approximately 6 to 8 weeks, weather permitting.  Huber Road was closed on June 20, 2007 for a bridge replacement.

 

Warren also reported that Harding Road between Watson Road and the Auglaize River Bridge will be closed until approximately August 30, 2007, weather permitting.  Harding Road was closed on June 4, 2007 for a road reconstruction project.

 

Tim Houck, Director of the Defiance County Environmental and Administrative Services, met with the Commissioners to discuss allowable expenditures of District Funds for Local County Environmental Programs.

 

Jerry Hayes, Director of Defiance County Economic Development and Isaac Lee, Assistant Director  updated the Commissioners on projects Economic Development is currently working on.

 

The Commissioners conducted the First Hearing for the Farmer-Mark Tile Project at the Farmer Fire Hall in Farmer Township. Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer was present and reviewed the project with the landowners.  The landowners were given the opportunity to ask questions and comment on the project.  After discussion, the Commissioners adjourned the hearing on the Petition until July 30, 2007 to give the landowners time to reach a mutual agreement to do the project privately.
