DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 26, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, June 26, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners had a brief discussion regarding the options on the courthouse.  It was decided that option three will be dropped to reduce the option to two.  It was decided by the Commissioner that this option was too large and to expensive. 

 

The Commissioners continue to work on presenting options one and two for public meetings beginning in July, 2006

 

Lisa Karcher from Maumee Valley Planning held the 2nd Public Hearing for the FY 2006 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Formula Program.  The State of Ohio, Department of Development provides financial assistance to local governments for the purpose of addressing local needs.

 

The Village of Hicksville received $19,900 for the extension of a 6” waterline from the easterly side of Horton/ Perry Street intersection to Ogen Street to complete a loop in the waterline system.  The project will provide better flow and fire protection to the residents.

 

The Village of Sherwood received $35,000 to provide an outlet for a storm drain under S.R. 18 east of U.S. Route 127.  There is an inadequate outlet for storm water in the area causing storm water to back-up and ultimately flood the area north of S.R. 18.  The project will consist of constructing a 250’ X 10’ grass waterway to carry storm water to an existing catch basin on Decker Drive.

 

Washington Township received $10,800 for the replacement of an old hazardous culvert on Behnfeldt Road between Scott Road and Williams-Defiance County Line Road.

 

The Commissioners met with Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter.

 

Warren mentioned the Glenburg Road Bridge is now open to all traffic.  His crew is working on final grading and seeding.

 

Also, Harper Road is currently closed due to culvert replacement.  Warren stated the pipe was put down last week and the road should reopen to traffic by the end of the week.

 

The Commissioners also met with Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director. 

 

Greg submitted his monthly income and expense report for May, 2006 and reported his budget looks good for the year.

 

Greg also mentioned his office inspected 346 buildings for proper water hookup. 

 

Also vacuum and pressure tested the Hospice manholes and they passed all testing procedures.

 

The Commissioners drove to the Henry County Commissioners office to discuss Maintenance Assessments for the Duplicate Year 2006 Joint Ditches.  A resolution was passed to place the ditches on the 2006 tax duplicate for collection for one year.
