DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 28, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 28, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved and signed a lease agreement with the Defiance County Fair Board.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update and bid opening for 2010 Cement Stabilization.  The Engineer’s estimate was $80,245.00.  The following bids were received:  Tenmile Creek Excavating, LLC. - $73,980.00 and Chem Base, Inc. - $75,998.75.  The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

 

Warren informed the Board that roadside grading work will continue this week on Banner School Road and Watson Road.  There will also be a culvert replacement on Mc Cavit Road.  The chip sealing contractor will begin work on Domersville Road.  Domersville Road will be closed for 1-2 days for the chip sealing project.

 

Jack Graf, Defiance County Job & Family Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Jack informed the Commissioners that there is currently no backlog in cases in children services for the first time.  There has been a 27% reduction in screened in children services cases from 2008 to 2009 and a 47% reduction from May of 2009 to May 2010.  There has been a 58% reduction in cases from 2008 to 2010.  This is attributed to staff training on screening; strict adherence to State screening guidelines and linking services to families/engaging them for a reduction in repeat cases.  The average monthly food stamps for 2010 is $650,853.00 for 5,290 individuals.  During 2009 the average monthly food stamps was $571,235.00 for 4,798 individuals.
