DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, June 29, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners spoke with Kirk Slusher with Ohio Department of Transportation regarding the Hire Road project public discussion comments.

 

At the present time, there is no funding available for the project, but both the Commissioners and Mr. Slusher agree that there is a valid need for the project and if funding was available, this project would be pursued.

 

The Commissioners discussed setting up a meeting with the Township Trustees, Kirk Slusher and Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter to review the public comments and discuss other possible alternatives of funding.

 

The Commissioners met with Tina Mohring, Director of Family & Children’s Services.  Tina submitted a contract to hire a Program Director for the Partnerships for Success Program.  This individual would monitor activities pertaining to the program as well as conduct core group meetings, manage work groups and organize community presentations to engage the community in the Partnerships for Success Program.

 

The Commissioners met with County Administrator Becky Wagner review her weekly report.

 

Becky discussed the grand opening of the Justice Center on October 17th.  Becky also mentioned the Justice Center is putting on a Safety Technology Training on July 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The training would include discussion on identifying tricks that perpetrators use to violate our computer systems.

 

The Commissioners also participated in an Exit Audit meeting with several Defiance County offices along with State Auditor Linda Maag.

 

The Board of Commissioners will receive a complete report from The State Auditor’s Office within the next four to six weeks.

 

 

 

 

 

The Commissioners met with Henry County Commissioners on Monday afternoon, held a special meeting with the Paulding County Commissioners on Monday evening, and met with the Williams County Commissioners this afternoon regarding the maintenance assessments for ditches that are adjoining Defiance County.

 

Currently, there are five joint ditches between Defiance and Williams County, ten joint ditches between Paulding and Defiance County and fourteen joint ditches between Henry and Defiance County.
