NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, July 3, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, and Alison Grimes, Clerk.  Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk was present for the Defiance portion of the meeting.     

 

8:15 a.m.        The Board met at the Hicksville Village Fire Department along with Hicksville Fire Chief Joe Stottler for a photo op.  The Hicksville Fire Department recently received air monitoring kits purchased with Department of Justice grant funds.  The County has taken a very aggressive approach in expending DOJ funds as it relates to preparedness and Homeland Security for Defiance County.  A photo op was held on Wednesday with the Sherwood Fire Chief as they also received air monitoring kits.

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

At approximately 9:25 a.m., the Board recessed and began the return trip to Defiance.

 

10:25 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly report.  The new county flags will be flown from the county flag poles that have enough height to allow the additional flag to be raised under the US flag and the State flag.  Several US flags will also be replaced. 

 

The Board reviewed a proposal from Beilharz Architects, Inc. for architectural/engineering services for the removal and replacement of the boiler at the Evergreen Lane Office Complex.  Commissioners accepted the proposal (time and material basis with the percentage fee of 7% as a maximum cap) pending review by the Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

 

The Senior Services Center requested and received approval to purchase a used vehicle from State surplus for $5,400.  The vehicle is a Ford Crown Victoria. 

 

10:30 a.m.      Elizabeth Criblez and Deb Bubp, representing Clemens, Nelson and Associates, gave an informational presentation to the Board.  Their company deals with any personnel-related issues and the ladies briefly reviewed the services/assistance their company could provide.  Clemens, Nelson and Associates, based in Columbus, also has a branch office in Lima.  The meeting was strictly informational.    

 

11:30 p.m.      The Board hosted an informal pizza luncheon in the Second Floor Conference Room to introduce Dennis McKay, the County’s new Department of Job and Family Services Director to the Elected Officials and Department Heads.

 

Today’s meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
