DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 3, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, July 3, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Tina Hiler, Director of the Defiance County Senior Center came in for a bid opening for one Home Delivered Meal Delivery Vehicle.

 

The Commissioners received one bid from Hotshot Delivery Systems, Inc. out of Bloomingdale, IL.  There bid was in the amount of $29,958.00 for a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado with 70% refrigerator and 30% oven.  The Commissioners will review the quote and award the bid at a later date.

 

The Commissioners met with Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer to open bid for the 2006 Pavement Marking contract. 

 

The Engineer received two bids; one from Aero-Mark, Inc. out of Streetsboro, OH in the amount of $94,070.29 and a bid from Ogelsby Construction, Inc. out of Norwalk, OH in the amount of $94,208.13.  The engineer’s estimate was $92,672.85.  The Commissioners will take the bids under advisement and award the bid next week.

 

Warren also commented on the Elliott Road project.  He indicated the waterline is complete and will update the Commissioners regarding the installation of the curb at a later date.

 

Warren stated there are two projects to begin on Fountain Street Road.  One is located .45 miles west of Lake Road. This project includes constructing GRS abutment walls in preparation of contracted pre-cast beam placement.  The second project on Fountain Street Road is located .25 miles east of Lake Road and includes constructing GRS headwall extensions in preparation for contracted pre-cast beam placement.  Both projects will be complete this fall. 

 

Warren also discussed the replacement of an existing structure on Defiance Henry County Line Road; .20 miles north of Jewell Road.  The current structure will be replaced with a corrugated aluminized pipe.

 

Warren also mentioned both Glenburg Road and Harper Road are now open.

 

Kris Hamilton from R.D. Zande came in for the Sanitary Sewer bid opening for the Defiance County Airport. 

 

There were two bids received for this project.  One from S & S Directional Boring located in Brian, OH in the amount of $194,810.20 and the second bid was from R. G. Zachrich from Defiance, OH in the amount of $179,409.27.  The Commissioners will review the bids and take them under advisement and award next week.  The engineer’s estimate was $202,743.00.

 

The Commissioners then met with Wayne Olsson, Director of the Board of Elections.  Wayne discussed the special election scheduled for August 2006. 

 

Wayne will need to print special election information postcards that will include the voter being required to bring identification with them such as a valid photo ID, a Military ID that shows the voter’s name and current address, or a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, or payroll check.  If the voter is not able to provide any form of ID with them, they will be required to provide the last four digits of their social security number, or sign an affirmation swearing to the voter’s identity under penalty of election falsification and by casting a provisional ballot. An additional $16,000 is being requested by the Election Board to fulfill this requirement.

 

Earl and Shawn Klepper of Defiance have been selected for the Clean Ohio Agriculture Easement Purchase Program by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.  (See attached News Release)
