NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, July 10, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.     

 

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

During General Session Lisa Karcher, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, stopped in briefly to leave information concerning the CDBG Formula Projects.  She received approval to request a 10-day extension to submit paperwork for the grant as one of the program’s potential grant recipients has not quite completed the necessary paperwork for submission.   

 

 

9:30 a.m.        Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly report.  Flagpoles are to be installed at the KeyBank and Good Samaritan facilities.

 

The Board received correspondence from the State approving the request for $193,000 Rapid Response funding from the State’s Dislocated Worker Governor’s Reserve Rapid Response funds.  Activities and services tentatively planned include the costs of support services, various workshops covering interviews, resume skills, career decision making, completing an application and job finding skills, plus a motivational seminar.  These sessions are being set up for the 212 dislocated Johns-Manville workers through the Department of Job and Family Services. 

 

Becky submitted the supervisor’s reports from the July 8 supervisors meeting for the Commissioner’s review. The main topic discussed was the proper procedure for reporting possible workers’ comp claims.    

 

She also reported that the Ohio Department of Transportation had been contacted regarding the accumulating debris in the river under the Clinton Street bridge.  ODOT is already in the process of removing the debris.

 

 

10:30 a.m.      Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, presented a projects update at this time.  Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Operations Director, also attended.   

 

The completion date for the Express Sewer project has been extended 30 days (to some time in September) due to the delayed receipt of the generators. 

 

Ken submitted a Change Order, from Anderzack-Pitzen, for the installation of a CT cabinet, per the request of Toledo Edison, for an increase of $1,127.47.  The Change Order will be reviewed before approval is given.

 

 

 

Before giving funding approval, Rural Development is requiring additional paperwork from the City and the County regarding the Indian Bridge Lane project.
