DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 10, 2006

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, July 10, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

The Commissioners approved award of one Home Delivered Meal Delivery Vehicle for the Defiance County Senior Center to Hotshot Delivery Systems, Inc., Bloomingdale, IL for the amount of $29,958.00.

Bob Arend with Arend Enterprises came in to discuss the Maximus Agreement with the Clerk of Courts.

Bob reported the initial timeline for the new system for the Clerk of Courts was not feasible.  Bob did have further conversation with Maximus and they made the decision to push the timeline back to mid December.  Staff training will begin in late September with system conversion being done in December.

The Commissioners met with local Funeral Home Directors regarding transportation of deceased persons after autopsies have been performed.

It was discussed that most counties don’t pay for the return trip (after an autopsy has been performed) if the coroner ordered the autopsy.  Most counties pay for the deceased to be taken to the hospital for the autopsy and the family pays for the transportation to the requested funeral home.

There will be further discussion with county officials as to the responsibilities of the county, townships and family members.

Dave Millhouse of Mercy Health Partners came in to discuss the possibility of tapping into the water lines at the Defiance County East location.  The hospital needs a second water feed and Mr. Millhouse is proposing a new tap come off of the existing waterline.  The second line would be an alternate looped redundant secondary feed.

The Commissioners suggested to Mr. Millhouse that they would need a written agreement to ensure both parties would share the cost to maintain the waterline should anything happen to it.
