DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, July 12, 2007.  Vice-Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator and Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

During General Session, the Commissioners approved the County Commissioners’ Association of Ohio Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Plan Agreement with CCAO Service Corporation.  The plan is intended to achieve lower workers’ compensation rates and result in establishment of safer working conditions and environments for Defiance County.

 

Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly report to the Board.  Becky reported that the Records Center has processed 874 record requests to date.  Also reported that Defiance County Job & Family Services issued 187 gas cards for Job & Family Services Gas Card Program and were able to send 4 children to 4-H camp and that the West High St. Canoe Launch site has been sprayed for weeds. 

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Board for the 2007 Guardrail Installation Bid Opening.  The following bids were received:  Lake Erie Construction Co., Norwalk, OH - $28,175.00; M.P. Dory, Inc., Columbus, OH - $30,372.38 and Paul Peterson Co., Columbus, OH - $33,834.62.  The Engineer’s estimate for the project is $32,205.00.  The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

Jeff Strausbaugh, Defiance County Prosecutor, and Sally King, Director of Sarah’s House, met with the Board to discuss moving Sarah’s House to a new location.  Mr. Strausbaugh informed the Commissioners that they have made a decision to stay at their present location for the time being.

 

During Session, the Commissioners discussed Courthouse space needs with Judge Ruyle, Juvenile/Probate Court, Jeff Strausbaugh, Defiance County Prosecutor and Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer,  and also reviewed plans where to locate offices.
