DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 18, 2005

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, July 18, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Alison Grimes, Clerk, Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk and Lyla Gurwell, Deputy Clerk.        

 

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

Commissioners were pleased to note that Ron Dorohoff, County Wastewater employee, recently received notice that he has passed his state test and now holds a Class II Wastewater Operator License.

 

 

10:00 a.m.    Warren Schlatter, County Engineer, met with the Board to open bids for the Breininger Road bridge project and 2005 Pavement Marking.  Bids were received from the following:

 

Pavement Marking Project

 

Engineer’s estimate for the project is $80,743.25.  Mr. Schlatter received a bid from Aero Mark, Streetsboro, OH for $79,523.10 along with a bid from Oglesby Construction, Norwalk, OH for $95,023.02.

 

Commissioners accepted the bids as presented and will award the bid, upon the recommendation of the Engineer, later this week.

 

 

Breininger Road Bridge Project

 

Bids were not opened for the Breininger Road project this morning because of concerns from the contractors over the Indiana Bat restriction.  Mr. Schlatter pushed the bid opening back two weeks to allow for the restriction of tree removal with a completion date of June 1, 2006.

 

 

10:30 a.m.    Tim Houck, Landfill Director, presented his monthly Landfill report to the Board. Also attending the meeting was Dick Sergeant from Eastman and Smith.  Mr. Sergeant reviewed information on landfill expansion and the BAT (best available technology). 

 

The board signed the Defiance County Landfill Solid Waste District Disposal fee for the month of June 2005.  The tonnage collected during June 2005 included in-district tonnage of 7,499.94,

 

 

 

 

 

 

out of district tonnage of 1, 101.49, out of state tonnage of 39.04 tons for a total tonnage of 8,640.47.  Total due the District for June is $9,781. 

 

 

The County Road Collection Crew has picked up 461.2 miles of roadway litter.  The grant goal is 906 miles.

 

Tim also reminded the board about today’s Four County Solid Waste District Meeting at the second floor conference room at 1:30 p.m.

 

 

1:30 p.m.      As Defiance County was the host, Commissioners attended the Four County Solid Waste District meeting in the second floor Conference room in the Commissioner’s Annex.

 

During the meeting, Tim reported that there was a 7% decrease in industrial pickup and a 3% increase in residential/ commercial pickup.

 

 

3:00 p.m.      Defiance and Williams County Commissioners attended a St. Joe River update at the Maumee Watershed office on Pinehurst.

 

4:30 p.m.      The Board of Commissioners attended a JEDD (Joint Economic development District) meeting at the Noble Township house.
