DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 19, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners met with Pam Schroeder, Vickie Bush, and Tim Holtsberry, Defiance County Board of Elections.  Russ Herman also met with the Commissioners and the Board of Elections in Executive Session to discuss possible pending litigation with no decisions being made in Executive Session.  Pam reviewed the current budget with the Commissioners; which is at 52% for the first six months.  Pam also presented an estimate for general election support work by Platinum Technology Resources.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Board that the beams will be set on the Openlander Road bridge on Wednesday.  Roadside grading work is being done on Openlander Road south of SR 249.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations Director, met with the Commissioners for his monthly update.  Greg reported the following was completed in June:  greased and oiled all plants and pump stations; installed new baffle at Evansport treatment plant; mowed Express Sewer Lane.  Greg also reported billing out $42,625.25, collecting $42,161.35 and having expenses of $43,958.70.  Greg recently attended the National American Water Works Association Conference, where he competed on a team with two other people from Ohio in a question & answer style completion.  The team placed 7th out of 19 teams.

 

Jack Graf, Defiance County Job and Family Services Director, met with the Commissioners in Executive Session to discuss collective bargaining with no decisions being made in executive session.

 

Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, and Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners to renew the Various Ditch Bond in the amount of $80,250.00.  This is a consolidation of the following ditch bonds:  Dowe Ditch ($3,000.00); Carryall Tile ($15,450.00); Peterson Ditch ($16,550.00); Kinner Ditch ($17,900.00); and Bee Tree Ditch ($27,350.00).

 

The Commissioners met with Jeff Leonard, David Williams, John Lehner, City of Defiance Representatives, Mike Struble, John Mayes, and Jerry Overmier, Defiance City Schools Representatives, and Jerry Hayes, Defiance Economic Development Director, to discuss utilization concepts for the junior high and middle school.  The Commissioners stated that they do not have a need for the building.

 

The Commissioners recently received the monthly report from Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden.  Randy reported that during the month of June there were 172 calls investigated resulting in 29 warnings and 35 citations.  There have been 7,737 dog tags sold to date compared to 7,502 sold for the entire year of 2009.
