NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Monday, July 21, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, and Alison Grimes, Clerk.     

 

8:30 a.m.        Russ Herman, County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Board to review the documents that are pending his review and/or approval.   Several documents pending his review should be approved and returned by the end of the week.  

 

9:00 a.m.        Steve Flickinger, State Auditor’s Office, met with the Board to discuss ideas on handling reimbursements so the expense line, from which the money was originally paid, is credited.  Currently, most reimbursement money is deposited in the General Fund. 

 

10:00 a.m.      Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, presented his weekly update.  He distributed the 2003 County Engineer’s Association roster to the Board.  He also obtained signatures on the Bend Road contract document and the contract for the Clinton Street and Hopkins Street bridges replacement project which were previously approved.  A survey, submitted by Mercer County regarding US Route 127, was given to Gaylon for his review and input.  The group also discussed the proposed Tiffin River canoe launch, a project that has been ongoing since 1998.  Gaylon is researching rights-of-way and will get more information for the Board.  

 

10:30 a.m.      Diane Mayer, Tina Hiler and Robin Justus, Defiance County Senior Services center, met to present an update to the Board.  One of two used vehicles, purchased through State Surplus, has been received.  Information is being prepared for bidding purposes regarding the purchase of a Hot Shot meal delivery vehicle.  

 

Diane Mayer reported that $5,000 from a non-federal grant was received from Ohio State Eagles Fund to assist with Respite Care. 

 

Senior Day at the County Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19.

 

Dennis Fligor, representing Senator Voinovich’s office, visited the Senior Services Center Monday, July 7, speaking with staff and many seniors.  There is a possibility Senator Voinovich may visit the Center on Tuesday, August 26. 

 

11:00 a.m.      General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

1:30 p.m.        Ken Maag and Otto Gerdeman Poggemeyer Design Group, along with Kim Moss, Health Commissioner and Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Operations Director with the Board for a projects update.   Roy Jackson, from Poggemeyer, presented an I and I (Infiltration and Inflow Inspection) study of the Christi Meadows, Breckler Road and Amber Oaks systems. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The study gave a breakdown of flow from the various areas, compared dry flow to wet flow amounts and pinpointed several problem areas.   

 

2:35 p.m.        Jeff Strausbaugh and Russ Herman, Prosecuting Attorney’s office, met with the Board in EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding the Purchase of Property (ORC 121.22 (G) (2) )

 

Executive Session ended at 3:33 p.m.

 

No decisions were made.
