DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JULY 22, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners awarded the Defiance Memorial Airport Parallel Taxiway Construction Phase II to Ward Construction Services for both phases of the project in the amount bid by them of $600,297.76.  This was based on the recommendations from Stantec Consulting Corporation and the Defiance Regional Airport Authority and receiving a grant from FAA with a maximum obligation of $644,972.00.  There is a local match of 5% for the project.

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly report and project updates. 

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Tim reported that the county road litter collection program has collected 625 miles to date.  In June 2010, there was $131,216.25 in expenses and $231,992.01 in revenue; compared to $207,154.67 in expenses and $250,726.01 in revenue for June 2009.  The landfill collected 27,670 cubic yards (8,712.86 tons) in June compared to 26,861 cubic yards (8,918.60 tons) in June 2009.

 

Julie Voll, Family and Children First Council, Jack Graf, Defiance County Job & Family Services Director, and Les McCaslin, ADAMhs Board, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Wraparound Service Mechanism.

 

The Commissioners met with Toby Hood, Schooley-Caldwell Associates, for a Historic Jail Project update.  Toby provided a new electrical service plan that was provided to the City of Defiance for their approval.

 

The Commissioners held a telephone Conference with Mark Landes, Isaac, Brant, Ledman & Teetor, L.L.P., in executive session for possible litigation with no decisions being made in executive session.
