DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 26, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the FY 2010 – 2011 contract between the Commissioners, the Defiance County Family & Children First Council and the Defiance County General Health District for the Help Me Grow Program and the FY 2010-2011 contract between the Commissioners, the Defiance County Family & Children First Council and the Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities for the Help Me Grow Program.

 

The Commissioners accepted the apportionment of Local Government Funds from the Defiance County Budget Commission for FY 2011 in the amount of $790,203.75.  The amount for FY 2010 was $749,677.43.  This amount is provided to the County Auditor from the State annually.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Commissioners that Openlander Road is still closed for a bridge replacement.  The beams were set last week.  Roadside grading work will possibly continue, weather permitting, on Glenburg Road near the Williams-Defiance County Line, Watson Road between Dohoney Road and SR 15, and Openlander Road south of SR 249.

 

Julie Voll and Beth Foreman, Defiance County Family & Children First Council and Help Me Grow, met with the Commissioners for an update.  The caseload for July, 2010 is 31 – At-risk and 46 - Part C, compared to 38 – At-risk and 40 – Part C for July, 2009. 

 

Deb Mosier, Defiance County Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners for the Stover Ditch #04-04 Bid Opening.  The following bids were received: Sines Excavating - $36,526.00; Meck-Donald’s Contracting - $34,444.00; Matt Crum Excavating - $33,490.00; Zenz Farms, Inc. - $35,425.00.  The Pre-bid estimate for the project was $40,000.00. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

 

The Commissioners attended the Northwest Ohio Commissioners & Engineer’s Meeting in Sidney, Ohio.
