DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JULY 27, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, July 27, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners are announcing the next public meeting for the courthouse presentation with the Board of Commissioners will be held at 7:00 p. m. on August 1, 2006 at the Highland Township Fire Department. There is a courthouse presentation on the Defiance County Web site at www.defiance-county.com . You are able to view a Power Point presentation of the courthouse options as well as refer to photos of the current courthouse and annex building structures.

 

The Commissioners would also like to remind the residents of Defiance County that there is a Power Point presentations being shown on DC TV as well as Hix-TV.

 

Defiance County Administrator, Becky Wagner submitted her weekly report to the Board of Commissioners.

 

Becky discussed the Pandemic Core Team and its attempt to put together a plan of Continuity of Government.  In doing this, the Core Team would send a questionnaire out to the County offices requesting information about the agency, contact person/s information in case of a catastrophic event.

 

Becky also mentioned the roof has been completed at the Defiance County Airport.  The job was awarded to Doug McDonald and took approximately 3 weeks to complete.

 

Tim Houck, Director Defiance County Landfill came in for his monthly update.  Tim reported the total annual sales to date for the Landfill is $1,556,934.65.  Total annual tons reported are 60,361.03; annual cubic yard total is at 166,273.

 

Compacted cubic yards total to date is 102,110 and loose cubic yards are at 64,163.  Leachate year to date total is currently at 472,170.00. Tim also reported the year to date income for the Hicksville Transfer Station is at $6,719.15.

 

Kirk Slusher, Ohio Department of Transportation District One Planning Administrator along with

Richland & Defiance Township Trustees and Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer came in to discuss the Hire Road Project.

 

Kirk advised the project is indefinitely on hold until another source of funding can be found.  The Commissioners are going to hold off in making a decision.

 

Kirk also updated the Board on other projects in the county.  Kirk mentioned the Carpenter Road at Domersville project.  This project will be bid this year with project construction beginning next spring.

 

Kirk also mentioned the SR 281 Interchange.  He indicated this project could begin next spring also which would deny access across the Maumee River for approximately 6 weeks to replace the bridge deck.  The traffic would be routed through the City of Defiance.
