DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, July 28, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and Joannne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.      

 

10:00 a.m.    Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter opened bids for Bowman Road and Breininger Road. The Engineer’s estimate was $180,000.00.  Among those submitting bids for the Bowman Road were Miller Brothers – Archbold, OH  in the amount of $186,392.00, R.G. Zachrich Construction – Defiance, OH in the amount of $165,699.00 and Taylor Excavating – Delta, OH in the amount of $163,083.00.

 

The Engineers estimate for Breininger Road was $284,769.75.  Submitting bids for Breininger Road project were Eagle BridgeSidney, OH in the amount of $389,764.50, Miller Brothers – Archbold, OH in the amount of $398,085.50 and R.G. Zachrich Construction – Defiance, OH in the amount of $326,263.30.  The Engineer’s estimate for the job was $284,769.75.  All bids came in at 10% over and will need to be re-bid at a later date.

 

Mr. Schlatter also mentioned that the Wonderly and Scholl Road bridges are currently closed for replacement.  The old structures will be replaced with concrete box beam structures.  Warren made the decision to close and work on both locations at the same time as the projects are close in proximity.  They will remain closed through the end of August.

 

- mentioned the Christy Road Bridge north of Banner School and south of Coressel Road will open the second week of August. R.G. Zachrich Construction was awarded the job in March of 2005.

 

10:30 a.m.    Joyce Cavanaugh and Terry Murnane of Farm Service Bureau met with the Commissioners to discuss the Lease Agreement for the office space at Evergreen Complex.  A new Lease agreement was signed by the commissioners which included an increase of $1.75 per sf from the previous 5 year Lease agreement due to the increase of utilities.

 

11:00 a.m.    Defiance County Dog Warden Randy Vogel updated the Commissioners on several issues for the Month of June.  Mr. Vogel reported 132 complaints were investigated, issued 21 warnings, wrote 33 citations, transported 47 dogs to the shelter. The Commissioners encourage owners of pets to take responsibility and have the animals neutered or spayed. For the month of June, Vogel disposed of 3,400 pounds of euthanized animals at the landfill.

 

 

 

Randy also reported that License sales for 2005 were up $3,382.00 from 2004. 

 

The number of miles driven in the month of June was 2,669.
