COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County
Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners,
500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512
on Thursday, July 28, 2005. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto
L. Nicely. Also present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime and Richard L.
Cromwell; Becky Wagner,
Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and
Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
8:30 a.m. General Session Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions,
contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda
items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated
information for the calendar of events.
The Commissioners approved the award of Bowman Road Bride
Materials to R.G. Zachrich Construction located in Defiance, OH with a bid of
$165,699. Engineer’s Estimate was
$180,000.
10:00 a.m. Defiance County Administrator Becky Wagner had
further discussion with the Commissioners regarding the Defiance County East
Office complex which is currently under renovation on East Second Street. Becky discussed various interior matters
needing resolution, various county offices moving into the new building and the
costs associated with the move. Defiance
Truck and Transfer submitted pricing on the cost of moving several of the
County offices. The Commissioners will
review the estimate. A decision will be
forthcoming and Becky will have further discussion with the Commissioners to
put these matters to rest as they arise.
The Commissioners received a letter from the City of Defiance regarding
membership dues from the Family and Children First counsel stating that they
could not participate in the membership for the upcoming year.
11:00 a.m. The Defiance County Commissioners met with
Jerry Overmier the Architect from Beilharz who is overseeing the renovation out
at the Defiance County East complex site.
They are working out details regarding the interior of the building. Commissioner Nicely stated that the
renovation is coming along, but there are details that need to be resolved with
the Architect today with decisions being made so the project will continue to
move forward.
Jane Tadson, Defiance County Recorder reported the
following: Recorded instruments for the month of July: Deeds – 184, Mortgages – 324, Releases – 250,
Power of Attorneys – 10, Soldiers Discharges – 2 and Plats – 1.
The Commissioners viewed the new improvements at the
fairground to include the new fencing.
They would like to commend the Fair Board for doing a great job at
keeping the Fairgrounds looking so good. The Defiance County Fair officially
opens on August 20th and will run through August 27th. The Commissioners would like to invite the
residents of Defiance County to come out to the fair to view the exhibits;
don’t forget to stop by and look through the County
Building to see what your County Officials
have been working on since last year.
