RELEASE
The Board of
Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Board received
the July Activity Report from Clerk of Courts Jean Ziegler. Jean reported collecting legal fees of
$12,691.02 and title fees of $3,721.53.
The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund received $11,164.59. Jean also reported deposits for the
following: legal fees of $114,579.79 and
title fees of $483,801.87. The sales or
use and dealers tax collected was $453,098.44 and watercraft tax collected
equaled $6,294.39. The number of titles
issued was 2,239, number of notation of liens 553 and number of inspections was
432.
Russ Herman,
Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, updated the Commissioners on various
issues pending at the Prosecutor’s Office.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the 2008 Bulk Ice
Control Salt Bid opening. The following
bids were received: Morton Salt,
Laura Howell,
Defiance County Administrator, and Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety
Coordinator, met with the Commissioners and reviewed the revised Safety Flip Charts. The charts
detail what employees should do in the event of an emergency and are specific
to building locations.
The Joint Board of
Commissioners of Defiance and Williams Counties met at the Ney Legion Hall for the
First Hearing on the Lick Creek Ditch Improvement Project. A Petition for Construction of Ditch
Improvement was filed in the Defiance County Commissioners office on May 19,
2008 to reduce flooding and soil erosion due to log jams in Lick Creek and Little
Lick Creek. During the Hearing Warren
Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, presented a PowerPoint presentation and
reviewed his Preliminary Report. The
estimated cost of the project is $930,000.00 and it is the opinion of the
Defiance County Engineer that the benefits of this project as petitioned exceed
the cost. The Hearing was continued to
October 6, 208 at which time the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will make
a decision on the project.
