OPENING:    

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, 2002, in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

8:00 a.m.        Russ Herman, Defiance County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met briefly with the Commissioners to review various documents which require his review and approval.

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session –

 

The Commissioners discussed installation of directional signs in the parking area, landscaping, and painting at the fairgrounds.  

 

9:30 a.m.        Gaylon Davis, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Board to open bids for the following:

Accept Buckskin Road Bridge Replacement, Flickinger Road Bridge Replacement, and Beerbower Road Bridge Replacement Bids as Presented for Further Review

Mr. Davis also presented his weekly update.  He reported that ODOT has requested that 20% of projects be bid in the first quarter, 30% in the second quarter, 30% in the third quarter, and 20% in the fourth quarter each year in order to receive better bids.  

 

The next bridge project to be started will be replacement of a small concrete structure on Flory Road east of Stever Road.   

 

The Engineering Department will assist in driving the posts at the fairgrounds for placement of the directional signs.   

 

The parking lot project at the KeyBank location should be completed in early October.   

 

10:00 a.m.      Diane Mayer, Tina Hiler and Joe Coressel, Senior Services Center, were scheduled for this time; however, Commissioners rescheduled this meeting to a later date

to attend a meeting at Defiance County Department of Job and Family Services.  

 

11:00 a.m.      Bill Morlock and Jim Barney, and Chris Farris representing the Brunersburg Water Department, met with the Commissioners to review the operation of the Brunersburg Water System.  It will be necessary to relocate a portion of the waterline located in the right-of-way along State Route 66 approximately ¼ to ½ mile north of the Defiance-Williams County Line.  Poggemeyer Design Group will provide the engineering for the project.  After the plans are completed and the cost determined, the Commissioners will review funding for the project.  Also, the group reviewed past due accounts for the Brunersburg Water Department and procedures for referring past due accounts to the County Auditor for inclusion on the real estate tax duplicates.  

 

2:00 p.m.        John Kaylor and John Wilhelm, Educational Service Center, met with the Commissioners regarding office space for The Opportunity Center
