DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on  Monday, August 13, 2007  9:00 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.       

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners and provided an update on pending legal issues in the Prosecutor’s office.

 

Kim Moss, Defiance County Health Commissioner, met with the Commissioners to discuss Senate Bill No. 192 regarding building and plumbing inspections. The Commissioners would like to amend this bill to allow for contracting out building and plumbing inspections.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on various roadway projects. Casebeer-Miller and Huber Roads should be paved this month. A culvert will be installed on Blosser Road, west of State Route 127.

 

Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners to provide an update for July 2007. The August Pines return sludge line has been unplugged and a blower motor has been replaced. Check valves at the Breckler Rd. pump station have been cleaned. Also submitted was the July report for expenses and income.

 

Wayne Olsson, Director of Defiance County Board of Elections, and Laura Howell, Deputy Director of Defiance County Board of Elections, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Diebold Service Contract on voting machines. The Defiance County Board of Elections has decided to raise the poll worker pay by $2.50 to $92.50 beginning January 1, 2008.

 

Tina Hiler, Director at Defiance County Senior Center, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on their budget and fundraising. There has been modest progress in the last three months on the building project and several fundraisers are expected through the end of the year.

 

Rhonda Cassler, Records Center, met with the Commissioner to discuss House Bill 9, Public Records Policy. House Bill 9 goes into effect on September 29, 2007 and all governments must adopt a public records policy.
