NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, August 14, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely.  Richard L. Cromwell is attending the CCAO Legislative Committee meeting today in Columbus.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.  Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk, was in attendance for the 10:30 a.m. meeting with Poggemeyer.     

 

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

 

9:30 a.m.        Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly update.  She informed the Board that the City will be patching a hole in the parking lot behind the Commissioner’s Annex some time today.  She also submitted information received during the Family and Children First Council Finance Committee which was held Tuesday morning. 

 

Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Operations, Otto Gerdeman, Poggemeyer Design Group, Gino Silvestri, City Wastewater and Becky met this past week about odor control on the Express Sewer.  Sample testing will be taken weekly during the early stages of the operation.

 

 

10:30 a.m.      Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, met with the Board for a projects update.  Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Operations Manager, was also in attendance. 

 

Express Sewer – project clean-up is scheduled to be completed by September 15.  Ken is waiting for quotes from several contractors to complete closure of the project. 

 

Brunersburg Sewer – Ken outlined various items that needed to be done to verify I and I problems.  Flow data from the pump station will be reviewed by Poggemeyer.  Construction inspection reports will also be re-read to determine testing data and acceptance.  IFM inspection reports for the lateral connections will also be reviewed. 

 

Christi Meadows – Ken provided a letter contract to provide engineering services to reduce inflow and infiltration of clean water into the sanitary sewer.  The project was broken down into

two sections:  Amber Oaks, Phase I - $9,300 and Christi Meadows, Phase II - $11,050.  The Board will review the contract before a decision is made.  

 

A pre-construction meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 18th at 10:00 a.m. regarding the Evansport pumps and blower.  It will be held in the offices of Poggemeyer Design Group.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Indian Bridge Lane – waiting to hear status of CDBG application from Maumee Valley Planning.   MVPO was contacted and the Board was informed that the application should be completed within the next two weeks.

 

Various types of chemicals used for sewer odor control were discussed.  Greg noted that Gino Silvestri, City Wastewater, has a list of vendors and the chemicals they sell for this purpose.   Greg will get a copy of that list.
