DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 14, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, travel requests, reviewed agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, Inc., updated the Commissioners on the Auglaize River Sewer Project and reviewed potential funding for the project. 

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly update.  During the meeting the Commissioners authorized the Maintenance Department to repair the lawn and the landscaping by the Animal Shelter building.    The Commissioners also authorized the replacement of five (5) windows by Lever Glass at the Defiance County Regional Airport. 

 

Tina Hiler, Director of Senior Services, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Ms. Hiler presented Defiance County Senior Services revenue and expense report from January through June 2008.  Ms. Hiler reported that the Area Office on Aging received additional funding for the Farmer’s Market Program and seniors who were on a waiting list will be receiving vouchers soon.  Ms. Hiler noted that on August 19th from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. there will be a Senior Celebration at the Defiance County Fair.  Two new activities at the Fair will be Horseshoe Pitching and a Fashion Show featuring the 4-H kids. 

 

Jeff Ankney, Defiance County Soil & Water District Administrator, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Mr. Ankney reported that an Ag Field Day was held on Evergreen Lane Office Complex last week on Cover crops and precision nutrient management.  Mr. Ankney also updated the Board of ditch projects.  The engineering plans for the Black Ditch Project have been completed and are ready for Bid with construction taking place in the fall.  The Beetree Run Ditch Project is nearing completion.  The Hoshack Tile needs final grading and seeding and should be completed in early September.  The Colwell Ditch and the Kinner Ditch has been surveyed and Mr. Ankney is currently preparing for a winter meeting on the projects.
