NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Monday, August 18, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. 

 

 

8:30 a.m.        Russ Herman, County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Board to review several documents pending his review/approval.  There are only two documents currently pending his review.  The group also discussed the County’s vacation and sick leave policies.

 

 

9:00 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events. 

 

 

10:00 a.m.      Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, presented his weekly update at this time.  He first handed out the latest Ohio Department of Transportation’s construction schedule for Defiance County for the Board’s review. 

 

Mr. Davis then submitted a petition, from the Village of Sherwood, for ditch/drainage improvement.  The property, a portion of land in the southeast quarter of Section 18, the south half of Section 17 and Section 20, Delaware Township, Defiance County, and beginning in the vicinity of Barbara Lane, west of US 127, running generally easterly and southerly following the appropriate path(s) of the existing storm sewers and/or appropriate ditches, is the petitioned area.  The Village is requesting the improvements to alleviate the flooding of property and roadways within the watershed.  A viewing of the area was scheduled with the Board for Thursday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m., and a Public Hearing regarding the project was scheduled for Thursday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m., at Fairview Elementary School.  The Clerk was requested to reserve the school auditorium for this hearing.

 

 

At 11:00 a.m., Commissioners traveled to Hicksville for lunch and to spend time at the County fair.
