DEFIANCE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY,

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance
County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512 on Thursday, August
18, 2005. The meeting was called to
order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely. Also present
were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime
and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner,
Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and
Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
8:30 a.m. General Session Clerk, Lyla Gurwell presented various resolutions, contracts
and documents for approval of the Commissioners. Commissioners also approved several travel
requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed
upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.
Tim
Houck Defiance County
Landfill Manager recommended to the Board, the award of the 2005 (Tier 2)
Landfill Gas Sampling Test to SCS Engineers, Cincinnati, OH. The bids were received on July 21, 2005 at
which time SCS Engineers submitted a bid of $17,000. Resolution passed unanimously.
Also signed final paperwork
for the Bowman Road Bridge Material award.
The project was awarded on August 1, 2005 to Zachrich Construction, Inc.,
Defiance, OH
for $165,699. The Engineer’s estimate
was $180,000. The project completion
date is November1, 2005 – weather permitting.
Economic Development
Director, Jerry Hayes submitted a
letter he prepared for the Community Commitment for the ZincOx Project. The letter was presented to ZincOx
representatives and the Ohio Department of Development during their meeting in Toledo today. Commissioners stated that it is their
intension to use 629 money for road improvements and expects to receive CDBG money
for land use.
10:00 a.m. Becky Wagner,
Administrator, presented the following for the Board’s review:
Becky advised the Board that
she instructed Defiance Counties Waste Water Operations Manager to continue
with the project at Christy Meadows and finish up with seeding by the first
week of September.
Becky met with Design Consultants
regarding interior office décor’. Becky Wagner and Deb Bloomfield are working on
integrating historic photos on the walls of the new office complex and has
visited area businesses to view prints of historic images of Defiance County. There will be numerous ideas presented to the
Board for their approval once decisions are made.
The parking Lot at Defiance
County East will not be ready to seal as soon as expected. The outside landscaping continues to
develop. The flag pole needs to placed
and the lot needs cleaning before the sealing can be done. Becky expects the parking lot to be ready by early
September.
Commissioners Otto Nicely and
Rich Cromwell will be traveling to Columbus
this afternoon to attend the CCAO Legislative Committee meeting.
