DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, AUGUST 18, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk and Julie Voll, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.   Warren updated the Board on current projects.  Huber Road between SR 49 and Hicksville-Edgerton Road will be closed for approximately 1 week starting August 18, 2008 for bridge replacement. 

Hicksville-Spencerville between Casebeer-Miller Road and Ohio-Indiana State Line Road is still closed for reconstruction.  Flory Road between Stever Road and Christy Road is still closed for bridge replacement and approximate opening date is September 30th.  Warren noted that the Defiance-Ayersville-Pleasant Bend Road Project has been completed.  Construction began July 21, 2008 and was completed on August 12, 2008.  The total cost of the project was $89,096.25.

 

Greg Reinhart, Director of Defiance County Wastewater, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Greg noted that spraying for weeds has been completed at the Defiance County Landfill, Wastewater Treatment Plants and at the Pump Stations and also pumped sludge from the Middle Gordon Creek Pump Station.  Greg also presented to the Commissioners Wastewater’s income and expense report for the month of July, 2008.

 

Jerry Hayes, Defiance County Economic Developer, and Jon Gathman, President of the Defiance County Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) to review Agreement with the Board of Trustees of CIC for Economic Development Services.  The Agreement will be reviewed for any changes that need to be made. 

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his July 2008 report to the Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 118 complaints, 23 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 15 citations issued.  Randy also transported 1,840 pounds of animals to the Landfill and drove 2,726 miles for the month of July.

 

Gary Cates, President of Defiance Regional Medical Center, Jack Morasch, Administrative Director of Grounds of ProMedica Air & Mobile and Dave Wolff Corporate Director of ProMedica Health Care System along with Sheriff Westrick, Herb Retcher and Otto Meyer, Defiance County Township Association, and Darrel Rock, Sherwood Fire Department, met with the Commissioners to discuss providing EMS Services in Milford, Washington and Farmer Townships in Defiance County.  Due to the low daily transport volume in this area it may not be feasible to provide EMS services to the area.  Mr. Morasch noted that they are willing to work with the County to search for options that will best serve the community.  Further discussion will take place with the Township Trustees along with Defiance Regional Medical Center and ProMedica at a future date.

 

 

The Commissioners attended the Ohio County Commissioners Days in Chillicothe, OH, August 19 and August 20, 2008.
