DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners entered into Contract with Ward Construction for the Defiance Memorial Airport Parallel Taxiway Construction Phase II.

 

Steve Flickinger and Linda Maag, State Auditors, met with the Board of Commissioners and the Audit Committee for an Exit Audit meeting.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Randy reported 149 calls investigated in July, resulting in 26 dogs taken to the shelter, 19 warnings, and 26 citations.  Randy also reported 2,987 miles driven during July and $802.50 received in court fines. 

 

Gary Keys and John Wirick, Toledo Edison, and Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Director, met with the Commissioners to discuss primary metering for the Historic Jail Building.  The Commissioners will be discussing the matter further with the architect before any decisions are made.

 

The Commissioners made a visit to the Humane Shelter to view the repairs to the lean-to roof on Wednesday and while there, toured the Humane Shelter and talked to the Deputy Director.

 

The Commissioners recently talked to Mayor Armstrong concerning the City removing the parking along Clinton Street in front of the Courthouse without notifying the Commissioners.  The Commissioners have been getting complaints from citizens.  Mayor Armstrong stated that he will bring the matter to the Board of Control’s attention.
