DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, AUGUST 22, 2005

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, August 22, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.     Russ Herman Assistant Prosecuting Attorney updated the Commissioners on various issues and contracts.

 

9:00 A.M.     General Session      Clerk, Lyla Gurwell presented various resolutions, contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners.  Commissioners also approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

10:00 A.M.    Defiance County Engineer open bids for Road Salt along with the Bowman Road Bridge project.  Those submitting bids for Salt were Cargill Incorporated Deicing Technology of North Olmsted, OH  for $49.70 per ton, Morton Salt of Chicago, IL for $43.56 per ton and North American Salt Company of Oberlin Park, Kansas for $46.60 Per ton.

 

The Commissioners opened bids from Anderzack Pitzen of Metamora, OH for $253,154 and R.G. Zachrich of Defiance, OH for $217,929 for the Bowman Road Bridge replacement.  The Engineer will review the bids and recommend the awards for both bids later in the week.

 

The Engineer also discussed Domersville Road bridge with Commissioners during session.  Warren stated that there will be a bridge deck meeting on Monday the 29th of August to discuss the closing.  The County Engineer along with the Commissioners and City Officials will discuss the closure of Domersville Road bridge on Monday the 29th of August.

 

11:00 A.M.  Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer came in with Megan Browning from Seasongood and Mayor to discuss CCAO’s program that allows counties to borrow money at a lower interest rate.  Seasongood and Mayor will be involved in further discussion with the Board regarding bond issues at a later date.

 

1:30 P.M.     Economic Development Director Jerry Hayes updated the Commissioners on projects as well as presented Enterprise Zone Agreements for review and signature of the Board.  Among those being passed were:

 

Defiance Stamping amendment to reflect changes in the Enterprises Zone Agreement (purchased by BLT Industries in April 2005), amend to reflect change

 

Defiance Stamping (BLT Industries wishes to amend the effective Enterprise Zone Agreement to replace Defiance Stamping)

 

Olson Commercial Cold Storage, LLC was amended to reflect changes in the Enterprise Zone Agreement.

 

Defiance Metal products wishes to amended Enterprise Zone Agreement.

 

The Hubbard Company is requesting changes in the Enterprise Zone Agreement.

 

 There will be a soup supper on Veterans Day at the Fair beginning Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  The Junior Fair Livestock sale will begin at 10:00 on Friday at the show arena.
