DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 24, 2006

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, August 24, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner’s Richard L. Cromwell, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

Defiance County Administrator submitted her weekly report.  Becky asked Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, Ron Cereghin to come in to discuss painting at the airport.  Ron submitted several quotes for the project.  After review of the quotes, the Commissioners recommended award to C.R. Hunt Inc., Defiance, OH.  The amount of their bid was $10,073.00.

Becky also discussed the signage at the High Street Canoe Launch site.  Becky indicated she is working with Dennis Miller, Director of Maumee Valley Planning, to complete paperwork for the Nature Works signs.  Becky will also be working with Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, to put together directional signage information.

Becky mentioned CORSA (County Risk Sharing Authority) will be offering several Regional information seminars during the month of September.  The purpose of the seminars is to discuss risk management topics, time-saving service procedures and to obtain feedback from members and agents about the program.  Members have also indicated interest in an on-line risk management service to supplement the face to face services already provided to the members.

The Commissioners attended the Mattock Ditch viewing in Adams Township.  The main objective of this project is to provide an adequate and stable outlet for surface and sub-surface drainage from the watershed area of approximately 734 acres.  The soils in the watershed are of a type that require surface and sub-surface drainage for efficient agricultural production and help to prevent soil erosion in the watershed area.  The elevation drop from the top of the watershed to the outlet of the problem area is about 20 feet.  Annual rainfall for the area is about 33.5 inches.  The ditch running along Mekus Road will be designed by the County Engineer and will be done as a part of the project.
