DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, August 25, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session      Clerk, Lyla Gurwell presented various resolutions, contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners.  Commissioners also approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners awarded the bid for the Bowman Road Bridge project.  Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer awarded the bridge project to R.G. Zachrich Construction, Inc., Defiance, OH with a bid of $217,929.36.  The Engineer’s estimate was $227,420.

 

The Commissioners also signed contracts for a Grant offer for the Defiance Memorial Airport, Defiance, OH.  The offer was issued by the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration on behalf of the United States to pay the Government’s share of the allowable project cost up to the maximum of $128,311 for this development project.

 

9:30 A.M.     Job & Family Services, Dennis McKay – Discussed the rental agreements with Commissioners.  Job & Family will move into the new Defiance County East Building in mid to late September.  Decision made by the Board to renew the lease on a yearly basis.

 

10:15 A.M.    Maintenance Supervisor, Ron Cereghin received several quotes from various contractors to seal the parking lot at the Evergreen Lanes Office Complex located on Evansport Road.  The contractors were asked to provide quotes on a 2-coat seal application along with striping parking areas. Upon review of the quotes, the Board made the decision to go with Strable Paving, Inc located in Cecil, OH who submitted a bid for $7,515.

 

Discussed the date and location for the COUNTY AUCTION – decision made to hold the auction at Evergreen Lanes on October 15 at 10:00.

 

10:30 A.M.    Landfill Manager, Tim Houck – Updated the Commissioners on several issues to include the 2005 Annual Sales Summary. Total year to date sales are $1,623,735.  Annual ton totals were 68,198.  The year to date annual cubic yards taken to the landfill were 178,331 cubic Yards to include residential, commercial and C & D.

 

The Defiance County Landfill Leachate Monthy Gallon Totals taken in through July were 157,676 and total for the year to date were 1,796,300.

 

 

 

 

Mr. Houck mentioned in looking at the Yearly/ Monthly Cubic Yards Comparison, the two largest years in revenue were 2000 at 326,165 and 2001 at 342,264.  In 2004, the landfill took in over 113,500 total ton of waste as compared to previous months.  The second highest year for waste intake was 2001 at 93,836.

 

1:00 P.M.      Defiance County Planning Commission met with Terry Brown regarding his application for Subdivision Variance for a 3.6 acre parcel located in Hicksville Township.  It did not meet the width to depth requirements.  The request was denied by the Defiance County Planning Commission Board.  They asked Mr. Brown to work with Maumee Valley Planning to change the lot sizes so that he meets the requirements.

 

In other business, the Planning Board will start to review the new subdivision regulations on lot sizes and various other issues under house bill 115.
