DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on  Thursday, August 23, 2007  8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk.       

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners and provided an update on pending legal issues in the Prosecutor’s office. The Commissioners and Council entered into Executive Session to discuss eminent litigation. Executive session ended with no decision being made.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Warren advised that, weather permitting, three (3) bridges in the area should be opening back up some time this week: Bostater Road, west of Mulligans Bluff Rd; Huber Road, west of Cicero Road; and Casebere-Miller Road, south of Spencerville-Hicksville Road. Also, Beerbower Road, west of Cicero Road will be closed approximately four (4) weeks, weather permitting, to replace the bridge. On Harding Road, crews should start putting down the asphalt base this week, weather permitting. Blosser Road between State Route 15 and The Bend will be closed for chip sealing.

 

Tim Houck, Director of Environmental Services, and Dick Sargent of Eastman and Smith, Ltd., via telephone, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Henry County Landfill Proposal. The Commissioner, Tim Houck, and Dick Sargent will meet with the Henry County Commissioners on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 10:00A.M. at the Henry County Commissioners’ office to present the proposal.

 

Jerry Overmier of Beilharz Architects met with the Commissioners to discuss the office and storage space needs of the Defiance County Courthouse.

 

Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, met with the Commissioner to discuss the Enterprise Zone Agreement with Advantage Powder Coating.  This will create six (6) new jobs, a new building with an approximate size of 48,700 square feet and an investment of approximately $1.8 million. The Board of Commissioners would like to thank Advantage Powder Coating for their investment in Defiance County.
