COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, AUGUST 28, 2006
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the
Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County
Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, August 28, 2006. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners
Richard L. Cromwell, Otto Nicely, Clerk Lyla Gurwell,
and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.
General Session –
The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for
approval. Commissioners also reviewed
agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed, and updated the calendar
of events.
Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter came in for his weekly
update. Warren
mentioned the Behnfeldt
Road Bridge. Warren
stated the beams we set and the paving and guardrail work will be done by the
end of next week.
Warren also brought in plans for the Schick Road canoe
launch project. The plans reflect the
parking and access locations. The Board of Commissioners will review the plans.
Warren also discussed the Elliott Road project with the
Commissioners. Warren stated the project would not be
considered complete until the seeding in done.
Wastewater Operations Director, Greg Reinhart, came in for his monthly
update. Greg mentioned he inspected 355
buildings, re-inspected 23 buildings and replaced a pump at the Middle Gordon
Creek.
Tina Hiler, Director of the Defiance
County Senior
Center came in to update the
Commissioners on the Senior
Center. The miles driven during the month of June was
7,436 and miles driven during the month of June was 7,994.
The number of in town medical trips during June was 239 and the number
of medical trips in Hicksville for June was
24. Transportation to the Defiance
Clinic for June was 40 and to Defiance
Hospital were eight for
the month June.
The total transportation trips are at 6,546, congregate meals were 742
and home delivered meals were 31,511 year-to-date.
Tina also mentioned that Mel Helitzer would speak on behalf of Speakers
Unlimited on Wednesday,
December 6, 2006 at 12:45
p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 111 Elliott Road, Defiance. The topic for the speech is “Keeping Your
Sense of Humor” and will last approximately 45 minutes.
Defiance City Board of Control, Mayor Bob
Armstrong, Jeff Leonard, & John Seeley came in to discuss the Elliott Road
Water and Sewer.
The Commissioners discussed the need for an
operating agreement with the City of Defiance
that would indicate who will operate and maintain the lines once they are
installed. This agreement would be
similar to the operating agreement with the city for the express sewer and
would need to clearly define and determine who would be responsible for the
lines.
Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant
Prosecuting Attorney and Defiance City Attorney, Dave Williams will meet later
to discuss an operating agreement.
