DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on  Thursday, August 30, 2007  8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.       

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

Becky Wagner, County Administrator presented her weekly update to the Board. Becky advised that she has informed Ron Cereghin of the maintenance department that the grass at the Defiance County East building needs to be weeded.  Becky has also advised that so far four (4) persons have applied for the Operations Manger / Administrator position.

 

Becky Wagner, Rhonda Cassler, Records Center, and Russ Herman have met to discuss the Public Records Policy under House Bill 9. A meeting will be scheduled to finalize the policy.

 

Tim Houck, Environmental Services Director, advised that the Environmental Services office assisted with the set-up of 4-H booths at the Defiance County Fair. They also assisted with litter pick-up after the fair closed.

 

Tim Houck, Landfill Director, Dick Sargent of Eastman & Smith, Ltd., James Mosely of Mannik & Smith Group and James Hamilton of Mannik & Smith Group met with the Commissioners to provide a monthly update. Tim submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill.  The sales summary total for July is $374,997.38.  The annual tons total to date is 66247.33 and the total annual cubic yards are 281,997. Tim also reported that the landfill construction is complete and is just waiting final approval by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for Cells 1 & 2.

 

Tim also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for 2007 is 50,609 vs. 29,519 for this same time in 2006.  The yearly/monthly tons comparison submitted for 2007 was 10,550.53 tons vs. 9,758.17 tons in 2006.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of July is 216,041.00.

 

Jerry Hayes, Director of Economic Development, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the various projects in the Economic Development office.
