DEFIANCE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2008
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio
on Thursday, September 4, 2008. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely,
Laura Howell, County Administrator
and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents,
approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly
update to the Board. Laura provided an
update on the US 24 Corridor Marketing meeting to be held on Monday, September
8, 2008 at 7:00 pm at Defiance County East.
The purpose of the meeting is to gather interest in marketing the region
to get cars to stop and spend money in our communities. Representatives from Defiance, Henry and Paulding County
Government Agencies are planning to attend.
Laura
provided various department updates. The
Records Center had 1,148 records requests
between January 1 and August 26, 2008.
Child Support has an approximate case load of 2,819. The 2008 collections as of July 31, 2008 were
$4,555,639 and the 2008 expenditures as of July 31, 2008 were $514,674. Senior Services conducted fire drills at both
Hicksville and Defiance
Centers. The agency is working with each department
for ways to cut expenses.
The Commissioners received from Jane Tadsen,
Defiance County Recorder, the department’s report for August, 2008. Jane reported to the Commissioners that
during the month of August, 2008, there were 143 Deeds, 162 Mortgages, 207
Releases, 6 Leases and 1 Plat. The total
for the month of August, 2008 was $22,620.50, of which $11,085.50 went toward
the Housing Trust Fund and $11,535.00 went toward the General Fund.
The joint
board of DeKalb and Defiance County Commissioners
held a public meeting regarding the Indiana
parcels that are in the Gordon Creek #79-3 watershed, being added to Schedule
of Benefits for ditch maintenance. The
joint board approved the addition of Indiana parcels to the Gordon Creek #79-3
Schedule of Benefits.
Defiance County business and community leaders,
as well as interested residents, are invited to attend a special wind energy
issues briefing, sponsored by Ohio State University Extension (OSUE), the Defiance County Commissioners and the Defiance
County Farm Bureau. The briefing will be
held at the Defiance County Emergency Management Agency building in Brunersburg
on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m.
The program will feature Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) Director for
Energy Services, Dale Arnold.
