NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512
on Monday, September 8, 2003. The meeting was called to order by Thomas
Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L.
Cromwell. Also present was Becky
Wagner, Administrator, Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan
Brown, Deputy Clerk.
8:30 a.m. General
Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the
calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the
calendar of events.
9:30 a.m. Russ Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting
Attorney, met with the Board to review various documents pending his review
and/or approval. Currently, Mr. Herman
is up-to-date with all documentation.
10:00 a.m. Gaylon Davis,
County Engineer,
met with the Board to present his weekly update. He reviewed his department’s accumulated
permissive tax, motor vehicle/license tax, gas tax and court tax. Overall, revenue is up slightly over this
same time period in 2002.
Mr. Davis also reviewed vehicle overweight/overload fines
for the Board. Overweight trucks cause
significant damage to roadways in Defiance
County, which ultimately costs the
taxpayer.
Gaylon also reviewed the status of the two bridge projects
going on in the City. The sidewalk beam
of the Clinton Street
Bridge and the roadway beam on the Hopkins
Street Bridge
are being repaired. Work should continue
through October.
His department is looking to purchase a new vehicle to
replace the Taurus Gaylon drives. A
vehicle from the Highway Garage will also be replaced. If replaced on time, both vehicles will be
placed in the County Auction,
scheduled for October 11.
10:45 a.m. The
Board and Staff left at this time to attend the Commissioners/Engineers
Quarterly Meeting in Lima, hosted
by the Allen County Commissioners and County
Engineers.
Today’s meeting adjourned at 10:40
a.m.
