DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, August 11, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session      Clerk, Lyla Gurwell presented various resolutions, contracts and documents for approval of the Commissioners.  Commissioners also approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners signed the contracts for the Bowman Road Bridge project awarded to R.G. Zachrich on August 25, 2005 – their bid was $217,929.36.  The Engineer’s bid was $227,420.  The completion date for this project is November 1, 2005.

 

9:45 A.M.     Dennis Miller from Maumee Valley Planning came before the Board to review the revised engineering contracts with Bryan Engineering & Surveying to design Sanitary Sewer, Water Line, Storm Sewer Retention Ponds and Pavement for the R & L Enterprise and City Industrial Park Phase II.  The estimated total cost of project is $235,000.  The Board awarded the contract to Bryan Engineering & Surveying. 

 

10:00 A.M.    Becky Wagner, Administrator, presented the following for the Board’s review:  Becky reported that final inspections were being made before final occupancy.  The Economic Development Office is planning their move beginning next week.

 

Becky reported the Senior Center had been approached to cater a dinner for the Area Office on Aging to be held at the UAW Hall in Mid October.  A representative from the AOA is requesting a quote from the Senior Center for approximately 200 people for a variety of events throughout the day.  The Commissioners are taking it into consideration.

 

10:30 A.M.    Morris Murray, Director of Child Support Enforcement Agency came in to update the Board on the status of the agency.  Morris reported that the actual collections for the month of July are $584,973 - 2004 collections year-to-date as of July 31, 2005 are $4,464,987 -  2004 expenditures year-to-date as of July 31, 2005 are $455,273 and the average collection per case is $208.

 

Morris also reported that his office was recognized for outstanding performance by Defiance County CSEA and were highest state percentage of performance in FFY04 Paternities Established Medium-small Caseload Division as well as overall top percentage performer for the Medium-Small Caseload Division.

 

11:00 A.M.    Jim Harris Ditch Maintenance Administrator with Soil & Water met with the Commissioners regarding the Chafin Ditch Tile in Washington Township.  The Chafin Tile project was approved by the Board and placed on the ditch maintenance program through Soil & Water.
