DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.   Warren updated the Board on current projects.  Warren presented and reviewed his 2008 Accumulated Revenue Report with the Board.  Warren also updated the Board on road projects.  Cullen Road south of Blanchard Road is currently closed for a bridge replacement.  It should re-open later this week.  Flory Road east of Stever Road is still closed for a bridge replacement by Stable Construction.  The beams have been set and paving is scheduled for sometime this week.

 

Bob Spyker from Spyker Contracting and Millwork and Jerry Hayes and Isaac Lee from Economic Development met with the Commissioners to discuss tap fees on Elliott Road.  The Commissioners informed Mr. Spyker that there will be tap fees on Elliott Road.

 

Jerry Hayes and Isaac Lee from Economic Development met with the Commissioners to discuss TIRC Recommendations.  The Commissioners approved the continuation of active Defiance County Enterprise Zone Agreements for a period of one (1) year.  There are currently forty-seven (47) Enterprise Zone Agreements, six (6) Tax Increment Financing Programs and five (5) Community Reinvestment Areas in the County.

 

David Votero from Schooley-Caldwell Associates met with the Commissioners to give a presentation on the possible renovation of the old Sheriff’s residence and jailhouse.

 

The Commissioners met with Larry Haver, Hicksville Mayor, Tom Vance, Ney Mayor, Glen Vance, Sherwood Mayor, Kim Moss and Kent Martz, Defiance County Health Department and Bob Armstrong, Jeff Leonard, John Seeley and Rex Robinson, City of Defiance to discuss commercial building inspections.
